The recent news that organic food contains 50% more omega-3 than its non organic counterparts may not have come as much of a shock; but will it mean the start of some serious traction for an industry that's forecast to grow 17.5% by 2019?
An ‘organic’ product is described as “produce that has been independently certified to have been grown free of chemicals.” There are several health benefits (as well as environmental) associated with eating organic produce:
Organic produce contains fewer pesticides.
Organic food is often fresher.
Organic farming is better for the environment.
Organically raised animals are NOT given antibiotics, growth hormones, or fed animal byproducts.
Organic meat and milk are richer in certain nutrients.
Organic food is GMO-free.
Clearly, the benefits of organic food are starting to hit home in the UK, and as a result the industry is currently 'bouncing back'...
